Go see An Inconvinent Truth. Change the way you live your life.
To not care about the planet is just becoming plain insane.
Our biggest downfall is not that we can't change, but that we can change and we fight so hard not to.

I have many issues with global warming and the response of the planet. Though I am quite sure not many people read my journal, I have always believed that doing whatever you can to make a difference, even on a very small scale is important.
I just wanted to bring up two of my main concerns about it in hopes that it might change the way at lease some people think.
Both involve the general lack of will to do ANYTHING about global warming.
-First is my confusion about why this particular global problem seems to be so easily ignored by so many people. When we all heard about the hole in the ozone layer, the whole planet not only agreed that it was a problem, but globally we put a ban on all chemicals that damaged the ozone (which for people out there who haven't figured it out yet, the hole in the ozone has nothing to do with global warming...two different problems). When the Y2K scare happened, even though it was JUST a speculation, NO proof, people went running into the streets buying all sorts of crap to stock up there house for the time they wouldn't be able to use a computer. So, even though the year 2000 came and went, no one had a problem being really concerned about that problem, and they weren't willing to take any chances. Those are just two examples of global problems that people have responded too fiercely. However, people seem completely capable of ignoring this very real problem. This problem won't lead to stonger UV rays, or the inablitily to use computers anymore, but the actual ability for us to live on this planet. It will kill so many things, the world could be a very different place within our life time. Yet people seem so capable of doing nothing. If you were willing to build a bomb shelter for the Y2K scare, then you should be perfectly capable of turning off your lights you're not using or turning down the heat/AC. I find almost the worst part of all this is the fact that it's almost stupid how simple this problem is to fix. Why is it that so many people seem so fine to just say 'well, we can't fix it, so let's just try nothing'? That's a weak and juvenile response. There is nothing you can't do to help fix this very real problem. This problem has been compared to the discovery that smoking is bad for you. People still took a lot of convincing and the tabacco companies fought very had to say it was all a lie and smoking was fine for you. There's one big difference between the two. If I choose to smoke or not smoke, it really only effects me, but the unwillingness to fix the issue of global warming effects everyone. So your choice to do nothing actually effects the WHOLE PLANET. And speaking for myself, I don't appreciate it at all to see so many people continuing to do nothing. If there's any doubt in your mind that you can do anything about this problem then go here
[link] and tell me how many of those things you can't just start doing right now. If the number is greater than 19, then I will take back that statment.
-The other major problem I have are people who still think this is a myth. It's not only that they think it's a myth, but that they choose to believe that because it's just a myth, there's no point in changing the way they live. As I said before, the SPECULATION that everything would crash in Y2K was enough to convince what seems to be more people that it was real then what global warming seems to be doing. We have charts and graphs and core samples and physical evidence, like increased storms and strange weather, melting glaciers and the melting of permafrost and increase of invasive species. Yet none of that seems to be enough to convinces some people. What else do you need?? Half the planet under water? But ok, so let's say that's what it will take to actually convince some people that the problem is real. It still doesn't make sense to me why these people still seem to want to fight tooth and nail not to do anything. Here are my reasons. First, and most importantly, is this really something that you're willing to RISK is a myth? As I said above, the things we can do to change this are so simple that it seems almost stupid not to do them. If you were willing to buy a generator and withdraw all your money because you didn't think the Y2K possibility was worth risking, then why is this worth doing nothing about? You'll be kicking yourself if you find out you were wrong, and I'll be right there kicking you too.
Second, we have everything to gain and everything to loose from doing nothing. Even if global warming is a COMPLETE myth and there is no truth to it, the result of doing all the things they want us to do about global warming will definitely result in a cleaner, healthier world. Tell me, who here finds this
[link] truely beautiful? Is even just having cleaner air to breath not a good enough reason to do something? Is not wanting our forests and rainforests to be cut down a good enough reason? Is not wanting to be dependent on foreign oil not a good enough reason? Is not wanting clean drinking water and sealife to live not a good enough reason? (Sealife, by the way, is a major factor in regulating climate and creating a large amount of our oxygen). Are you a fan of animals? Do you love polar bears and penguins and dolphins and marine fishes? Well then that should be a good enough reason to want to do these things.
And thridly, by doing most of the things you can do to help stop global warming, you would actually be saving money. Using less energy period will mean you buy less of it. And of course, everyone thinks money is the most important thing in the whole world. So maybe that should be enough to make you want to do something.
In the end, global warming is less like the early fights with the tabacco company, and more like a house on fire. If a fire started in your house, would you even try to put it out? or would you just walk away and let the whole house burn to the ground? If you were living in a house with a lot of people and you noticed that there was a fire starting, would you do nothing just because you didn't start the fire? Would you stand there pointing fingers until the fire was out of control? This is a big fire. We've been ignoring it for more than 30 years, but it's still hasn't reached the point of being completely out of control. We can still do something about it. Don't wait around for help or for someone else to start. Do something now, and even if you dont' feel it's enough, it's something. And that's important. Tell your friends and family, and your schools and local businesses. Start getting people to help put this fire out yourself.
And the one big difference between global warming and a house on fire, is that we cannot just go outside onto the street and watch the house burn down. We're here for good. Let's do something about this.
On another note, I am now taking commissions.
I have not decided on prices yet, but if you are interested send me a note and we can work something out.
I'm willing to do sketches, B&W linework, digital colour and pencil crayon colour. The price will vary on what you want.
I'm also going to be taking snoot commissions as well. If you'd like to see a character drawn as a snoot or just a snoot themed picture, I'd be happy to do those too.
